Pastor Lurna Cumby

First Lady Lurna Cumby is the Pastor of Behind The Veil Worship Center, located in Athens, Texas, where her husband Sam Cumby is the Senior Pastor. Pastor Lurna has been in the ministry of serving and bringing people to God through her awesome preaching, teaching and dynamic singing for almost 20 years. She is the mother of four beautiful and talented children and an amazing grandmother of four beautifully blessed grandchildren.

After graduating from Athens High School, Pastor Lurna went on to become a licensed Cosmetologist. Pastor Lurna has been very blessed throughout her endeavors and is the thriving entrepreneur of “Simply Gorgeous Hair Design” located at 610 N. Pinkerton Street, Athens, TX. She is passionate about her job and loves making people look beautiful on the outside, but knows her true calling is to teach the Word of God in such a way that it will be instrumental in changing the lives of people to be beautiful and whole on the inside.

Pastor Lurna was called to the Ministry in 1994 and has been anointed by God to preach the Gospel in many churches and conferences throughout the state of Texas. One of her main objectives is to see Jesus having central place in the body of Christ and for the world to see that the cross really did make a difference. God has used Pastor Lurna to minister to the hearts and souls of women of all walks of life motivating them to live out their true potential in Christ. As a result of her desire to minister to women, the Lord lead her in 2007 to birth the annual Times Of Refreshing Women's Conference. Also in 2012 she launched her very own Lurna Cumby Ministries. Even though these launched ministries keep her busy one of her greatest joys is being the Praise and Worship Leader at Behind the Veil Worship Center Church where God uses her voice to help usher the congregation into the presence of the Lord. She loves the Lord and has a desire to win as many souls as she can for Him. Her ultimate goal in life is to please the Lord and do the work of the One who sent her. She is an ultimate warrior for the Lord, truly gifted and talented and uses her gifts for the uplifting and praising of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Pastor Lurna believes that her daily living should be representative of how a true woman of God should walk in His way. Not only does she preach and teach the Word, but she believes that it is important to live the Word. As the pastor and co-founder of Behind The Veil Worship Center Church, her ultimate goal for the local church is to provide a atmosphere where God’s people will have the freedom to worship and experience the very presence of God.
